just looking for info on the coast guard if any one can give some

My brother is in the Coast Guard and really enjoys it. he is currently a mechanic and works on one of the big boats. he spends 3 months at a time "out". He's gone all over the place, his favorite place is Columbia (for the coffee of course). he's gone all the way down the coast of South America and back. he spends a good deal of time in the carribbean and has been just about everywhere down there. the only draw back is the promotions. My brother has been in for about 6 years and is an E-4. He is excellent at his job, promotions are just slow after E-3. He is currently cross-training out of boat mechanics into Helicopter maintenace. So if you go in and you want to change jobs, you can do that ! Basic Training is not bad either.
In comparison for promotions, my husband is Air Force and after 3 years, he is an E-5.

The Coast Guard is great. My husband is in it and my brother is joining once he gets out of high school. It is job security and the health benefits are FREE. You can advance quickly with the Coast Guard. If you have any certain question, feel free to ask!

Im going to the Coast when I get outta school. You can serve the country while being able to stay home and support your family; Its basically the Army, but there are rates where you can save lives instead of taking them and the promotion is faster up to E-3 but a hell of alot slower after that.

US Coast Guard is good job. It entails the monitoring of the US coastlines against intruders consisting of drug dealers, terrorists, immigrants and animal pouchers of marine life.
