I have Corian countertops (Silt: a dark gray color with brown and white speckles but mainly gray) we are looking to put an Island and I would like to do something different. I have been told that black granite would look very nice with my natural color cabinets. Appliances are stainless steel with black. I am not sure!
What do you think?
I would like to hear from people who have solid black granite to tell me how it looks! I also would love to hear from Interior designers! Thanks

We just remodeled our entire kitchen, light honey alder mission style cabinets, stainless steel appliances, even a black matte slightly grey mottled floor. We opted for a VERY dark granite. Not solid black, mostly because we couldn't find it. But a shade very near black with a few deep complimentary colors that are flecked through it but very infrequently. There is even true black through out it. Heavier and more solid in some places than others. Personally we're very happy with the very dark, very deep, almost black color over a solid black color. We base that on the range top we chose for the jenn-air which is solid black. Very cool looking kitchen, but even with the black stove top totally clean, every time I walk by I feel like I should take a feather duster to it. I NEVER see that or feel that way with the granite that is just a little bit away from the solid black. Not an interior decorator by any means, just learned from a very slow remodel that gave us time to change our minds. All the best, Steve Oh, the granite was named "Uba Tuba", I don't know if that's a "national name" but I've seen it in the Seattle area, different stores and in east coast magazines.

As an interior decorator I would highly recommend a much lighter colour for the island counter top.

The black would be too close in colour to your current "silt" counters. I think it would look like you could not match the silt colour. By choosing something much lighter with some specks or ribbons of beiges, browns, golds, etc., the counter would take up less visual room and give the room variety and bling! : )

Good Luck!

We put in black granite with our natural cabinets and it looks AWESOME. Best looking kitchen I've had in a long time.
