My 1-year-old dog Bear started coughing/weezing dryly this afternoon. He is still eating and acting normal. I was told if you press on the neck of a dog with kennel cough, it'll cough; he did. He has had contact with one dog, and I don't think she is vaccinated against it. I don't want to take him to the vet (I'm on a tight budget.) Are there any things around the house I could use to treat his cough? Also, are there any more signs I should be concerned about?

If he has been vaccinated for kennel cough that may not be what it is. If it is kennel cough then usually antibiotics do not help at all, cough tabs help some but usually you have to let if run its course

Oh yeah, i have four dogs, and we have been hit with kennel cough plenty of times, so our vet told us that instead of taking them to him one by one all the time, we could just give them a little bit of Robotussin. And we did, and it worked. so you can try that, but make sure that you don't give it too much, bcuz then it would get too drowzy and you could have a serious problem. But all in all, it would work.

Go to the vet. It usually nees to be treated with antibiotics!!! Cough medicine will only mask the signs....not treat the infection!!! It should not cost much. An office visit and some medication!!!!
