Part of the answer may depend on your age. A parent would really like a two-year-old to obey. The two-year-old may not see the value in 100% obedience because he/she is developing his sense of autonomy and self-expression. Hopefully, between age 2 and our age, we learn that obedience is necessary as a prerequisite for obtaining blessings - you can't trust a two-year-old with having his own house and car, for example, because if he can't come when called by his parents, he won't come when called by the Department of Motor Vehicles employee to get his car registered. I realize that is a simplistic analogy but you get the idea. If you are talking about a capitalistic culture, I think we are more results-oriented, and as long as a company obeys the majority of the laws attached to their operation, they have a pretty wide range of behavior to achieve those results. I think obedience yields results which God values more. If you are obedient to the commandments, God can trust you with taking care of more of His children, especially when they are still learning about why we have commandments. If you obey the law of chastity and uphold the standards of honesty, for example, you have freedom to serve all kinds of people with confidence that they will know you are truly a person of your word and not out to just serve selfish needs.
