You're correct. The Levitical requirement for tithing no longer applies. The rule of Law was replaced by the rule of Love by Christ's death. It was the poor woman who gave two mites (but all she owned) who was honored over those who poured in riches out of their abundance.
10 percent is no longer required, but also, it may no longer be enough. Depending on your circumstance, Love may require you to offer even more to those in need. The rule of love is not a lower standard, or a higher one. It's just different.

I am waiting for the answers. Good question. Although, I do tithe. I believe it is some place in the NT.
I am pasting this statement from the below website. I just looked this up.
"Now let us consider whether tithing is required in the new covenant. Tithing is mentioned only three or four times in the New Testament. Jesus acknowledged that the Pharisees were very careful about tithing (Luke 18:12), and he said that they should not leave it undone (Matt. 23:23; Luke 11:42). "

Tithing is no longer a requirement. God's people are directed in the bible to give what they are able. Why would a pastor be any different? The fact that your pastor doesn't work is not scriptural. God does not require us to support one another except in times of need. Jehovah's witnesses do not have a pastor but all are equal among us as Jesus taught. Each man who has become (by virtue of his hard work and dedication to God) an "elder" takes a turn giving the weekly talks and conducting the meetings. They all work to support their families. Read the new testament. Our religion is based on it as yours should be.

I cannot find a verse about tithing in the New Testament, but there is the story of the poor widow who gave all she had and Jesus approved of it.
Mark 12:41-44 Jesus went over to the collection box in the Temple and sat and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. Then a poor widow came and dropped in two pennies. He called his disciples to him and said "I assure you, this poor widow has given more than all the others have given. For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is has given everything she has."
We must remember that gifts of any size are pleasing to God when they are given out of gratitude and a spirit of generosity.

No. Tithing was a provision under the Law of Moses that is not binding on Christians.

Christians don't HAVE TO but most want to as tithing helps others and that feels good and it pleases God to help others

We're taught that everything belongs to God. So...give it to him. No "percentage" is set in the New Testament...
Give it all. 100% Every last dime.
You'll be rewarded a hundredfold. I promise.
