as a breeder for many years ,your is not a hopeless case..if you know someone who knows how to clip iys wings have that done or wlse take it to your vet.this will keep him from flying away every time you want to hold him. have him walk up on your hand but do not grab him as l
this make him think he is "caught" and the biting starts..It may take a while, but he has got to learn to trust you.when he walks up on your hand always say "up" and he will learn. They are very smart birds. Good luck!

With a lot of patience. Try feeding it special treats only offered in your hand. Catch it and hold it for 1-2 minutes several times a day and after many-many weeks it will be tame. It would have been easier when it was a baby -but it is not hopeless! Good luck!

Hey that is the exact age span I got my tiel!! So, simply spending time with him/her first. The tiel needs to get used to you first and gain some thrust. Then automatically the tiel will come to you. You often put you finger but it's legs (tummy area) and the tiel will know you want him to come to you. When you do this for the first time talk to him/her during the whole process and say step up. He/she will do it and that is the only thing other than talking you can teach a lot of the tiels. But, if you gain a lot of thrust from the bird he will allow you to roll him upside down or cuddle really closely (more like a dog).

u should have started when it was a baby or only 3 months old. cockatiel bites are gentle so just teach it the step up thing. mine learned it in about 2 weeks. rub it or pat it too.

It is fairly simple to train birds that is if you have the patients all you need is to spend time with your bird and one thing that helps is giving your bird treats. as it starts to trust you it should come to you but don't force it you have to take it step by step. other wise you might cause trauma to your bird and may loose total trust.
