That's the five million dollar question! There is no correct 'answer' for purring, but it esentially means the cat feels safe, secure, comfortable and happy. As Martha said..."It's a good thing".

Many people believe it goes back to their kitten days when purring also helped identify them with their mothers.

Others believe it relaxes them. For example when stressed, a kitten will purr to calm themselves.

In your case, however, the cat just loves the bejezus out of ya...enjoy it! :)

He's saying i like it and keep doing it.

But if he's like my cat it can also mean I like it for now but in a few moments i will go completely Feral because i am so content so watch out.

lol...

he's probably trying to say he loves you and you're soft, warm, and smell nice

or, he could be like my cat, he only purrs when he's in attack mode, if you hear purring, prepare for incoming teeth and claws
if we have company, he'll sit close to them and start purring, so of course they think he wants to be petted. i have a large selection of band-aids and antiseptics for the one who don't believe that he's an evil attack cat (but I luv him)

HE LOVES YOU! Make sure you pet him when he cuddles with you, and he will love you and purr for you always!
