The more I see, the more it looks that way. Christianity says man is wretched and doomed and only through Jesus can your life ever be meaningful. Same with an abusive husband. God punishes you for what he views as sins, even when you really did nothing wrong. Same with an abusive husband. Christianity takes over every aspect of their lives, same with an abusive husband.

First of all, everyone has their own definition of wrong - so how do you know you did nothing wrong? The only way to find out is to follow God's truth, which is not as black and white as right vs. wrong. Also, Christian love Jesus because he died for their sins. In other words, if you had killed somebody and were sentenced to death and your dad decided to take your place to spare your eternal punishment, would you love him? An abusive husband is loved by his wife because she thinks he can change. At the same time, he is punishing without need - which totally contradicts Christian teachings.

Nah. Jesus is the Mexican guy who works at the supermarket. ;)

Yes, you are correct. Great analogy. You are going to have tons of "Jesus is my friend, not my master!" answers, but these people have become blind to their own weakness, just like an abused wife. The abused wife doesn't know she is in an unfair relationship, but instead she honestly believes that she is being fairly "punished" for whatever idiotic "crime" the husband finds her guilty of.

The Christian god doesn't give true free will to humans, he is a tyrant. If you use said "free will" to not worship him, then you are punished. True freedom means that you can worship the way you would like without fear of persecution.

I see the "relation" but umm so are many other things that are considered similar. Christianity from last I heard is to love thy neighbor! Yes your neighbor is your wife as well and who says men do not get in abusive relationship? And no Christians do not love like battered women love their husbands. I don't even see how a abused wife could still love her husband. And who says we didn't do anything wrong? Have you looked at life? We as humans sometimes ABSOLUTELY HATE one another.

Listen sweetie, In logic it is a no-no to compare apples with oranges. Man (abusive or not) small limited, weak, physically and mentally, and mostly a victim of his circumstances. GOD, an infinite being, all powerful, all knowing, transcending time, human logic and understanding. Now ,what was it you were finding in common? I hope he has not beaten you too much on the head, one starts making disparate comparisons when the brain suffers lesions. Take care of yourself.

Well, most of you agree with my ex-wife then. She made it very clear that she speaks to jesus (by phone or what??), that he knows her more intimately than I do, is her best friend, and that I was NEVER number one, and NEVER was going to be. AND the church got priority always whether it was money (tithe, sic), spare time, or even affection. I admit, I was niaive, I really thought that a marriage was about putting our family first, our son first, our finances first.Well, I was wrong. Church comes first, my son and I always came a very very distant second. Once a church gets hold of your spouse, you may as well give up, because they WONT give up until you buckle in and conform, or in my case, leave. They will pursue your spouse relentlessly, and if you and your children get hurt, thats just tough, I am collaterol damage, well worth it.

One giving all aspects of their life to Christianity is no more unhealthy than one giving their life to Buddhism, Islam or the Wiccan Rede. All of these religions teach love, compassion and acceptance. You might do well to read up on one of them.

Blessed Be

Yikes.........I never thought of it from that cynical of an angle but it seems to hold up. I will need to think on this.

I wonder if religions like Christianity actually cause more women to be abused because it ingrains that pattern of behavior into them.

You ask a very interesting question.

God doesn't punish you. You suffer the consequences of your own actions. Look into the universal law of karma and reincarnation and it might make sense. But probably not. You sound like you've already made up your mind.

P.S. I'm not Christian.

OH MY GOD that was the best comparison I have ever freaking heard!!!! I just called three of my friends to share it with.. Giant thumbs up. But I think that it relates to Catholics more so. As they tend to wear their religion like cement shoes. Christians just seem to pay theirs lip service.

That isn't the best comparison, especially since the teachings have been updated, and many Christians now believe that as long as one lives a good life, they'll go to Heaven.
