just think failure is not an option. So what if he thinks you're weird? if he does he probably wasn't worth asking in the first place. You only live one - take chances otherwise you'll look back and think I'll never know what he would have said.

I completely understand.
To ease your nerves.... do it in a less upfront way. No, don't write it in a note and hand it to him. Be a little creative. Like, most dances have a theme.... so get something relating to that theme and write somehting ont he back of it like.... "would you care to join me?" or "it would be interesting, huh? What do you think?". This way it's not as scaring, but it's not impersonal. Plus, some guys will like it because it's a bit more fun and flirtacious.... and that's what dances are about, right?
Good Luck!
What NOT to do:
Don't over think it.... it'll ruin your nerves.
Don't ask a friend to ask. A big no-no.
Don't wait to long to ask or else you window of opportunity may be gone.

I don't like asking guys to dances lol i just go with friends and when the actual dance comes up i just have a fun time, yah i dance with guys (a lot lol) and alot of the time one of them is a guy i'm into so i would just go to the dance and then you can ask him to dance at the dance or something, this way he don't feel like he is trapped with u and u know u can have a good time without being self consious or stuck up to your neck in awkward moments lol so just go and have fun!!!

Don't hesitate, the longer you wait, the harder it will get. Just go up to him, and ask if he's taking anybody to the dance. And tell him You'd like to go with him, as a friend. I think you will find you will have company at that dance.......now get going, and ask him.

Is it the Sadie Hawkins dance? if it is, just come out and ask him, he'll understand, men are supposed to ask women, and when the shoes on the other foot, usually they can see you struggle, and they will be nice about it.. just go ask him, the more you ponder it, the harder you will make it out to be, after you walk up and ask him, then your going to look back and say that wasn't so bad

I’m sure that this question been asked and answered like 500 times already? Why do we have to endure reading these repetitive recycled moronic questions? Is there some contest going on to see how many times the Answers community can ask the same idiotic question?

just ask him, there's no reason to be scared.
he won't think you're weird at all. its a dance, its not like you're asking him something crazy. if anything, he'll be flattered that you asked him and not someone else.
what i think you should do is just simply start hanging out with him more. that'll make you feel more comfy with him. then just ask him! good luck girl :]

Say I like you do you like me? And then wait in silence. If he says no, then say just kidding, if he says yes, then say can you think of any reason we shouldn't go to this dance together then?
Easy.
