Okay I read a bunch of answers to this question but nothing really seems to answer what I am curious about. This is my day, I wake up around 1-3pm every afternoon, get stuff done, get myself ready, watch a tv show, run an errand or two, and by 5pm I'm at work until 9pm. After that I almost always stay awake until 3am!! Then its back to starting over again! I've tried to go to bed earlier or wake up earlier and that just doesn't work because I can't get my body adjusted to a new routine. I have had my thyroid checked and its fine, I am worried that I'm missing out on life & I don't have any kids to worry about. I don't want to change my work schedule either because it would conflict with my husband's and we wouldnt see eachother very much. I also don't get any excerise except for walking in the store or at work or around the house. Could someone give me some kind suggestions at how to change or am I fine the way I am?

To first address your question about sleep, yes, I would say that you do get too much of it.
If you are going to bed around 3 a.m. and wake up at 1 p.m., you are getting about 10 hours of sleep. Waking up at 3 p.m. is giving you 12 hours of sleep. You should strive for 8 hours...even though it seems like only a couple hours, it really can make all the difference.

Because of your work schedule, I'm sure it's hard to adjust the times that you get to bed and wake in the morning. However, maybe it would be easier to try to take a relaxing bubble bath and/or some natural relaxing ("bedtime") tea a couple hours before 3 a.m. That may help you fall asleep sooner, giving your body more rest so that you can wake up earlier.

If this doesn't seem to be the best option for you, you could, instead, just try to go to sleep slightly later than you usually do, making it okay to sleep until 1 or 2 p.m.

As for the exercise, how about a long walk each day, ideally outdoors? Walking is actually the best thing you can do for your body, as it was meant for walking. In addition, being outside really does relieve a great amount of stress, making sleeping and relaxing much easier.

Your circadium rhythms are out of whack. Force yourself to get up earlier. Open the drapes and turn on the lights to tell your brain is time to wake up! Then in the evening, establish a winding down routine--a warm bath or read something until you're sleepy. Turn down the lights so your brain knows it's bedtime. Try taking a lose dose of melatonin or valerian root about a half an hour before betime. Avoid the tv and the computer! Too much light and too stimulating. A little exercise goes a long way in helping you sleep, but eariler and not later. Exercise before bed can keep you awake.

Force yourself to go to sleep at the time you want everynight. If you don't your body is going to keep telling you what to do. You have to say no, this is the time I sleep. Your body will listen. It's amazing, you'll see it. Watch.
