Keep that competitive edge surfergirl. Run as hard as you can. If others can't keep up or if they think you are trying to show them up, believe me, they are the ones that have the problem. Stay competitive. When you get out of school you will be competing for jobs, business, colleges, grades, placements for the rest of your life.

If you feel you have to be the best, then be the best. It's OKAY to be the best. GO FOR IT!!!

I know what it feels like, and it happenes to me and I always put 100% at it. You should try and use that ambition in other actiivities you are good at, and I know it won't take away your competitive side and usually people that are competitive can't help being what they are and my question would be if you are like that in other activities or just PE. If you are a good runner then I think it's not that bad to be a little competitive WHEN running, but if you loose and react in a violent way then you are a very comeptitive person but if you loose and say it's OK then being competitive in my personal opinion and experience, it's not that bad but you've got to keep an eye on your reactions and those ambitions of being the best. I hope I answered your question, I tried, and I know this might not be accepted by everyone but seeing a professional can help. Wish you luck!!

It's called competitiveness, and there's nothing wrong with that. Actually it's good. As long as you turn your competitiveness into a positive thing (like it keeps pushing you to try harder and makes you do better than you normally do) and not a negative thing (jealousy of those who may beat you, physically/mentally abusing yourself).

A good friend of mine was in cross country for a long time. She was ranked really high, and in state she was #2. She always lost against this one girl. So one year, before the state competition, she decided to lose a lot of weight by becoming anorexic, just so she could beat that other girl. A few days before the state competition, she found out she broke her leg because her body became so weak from not eating. She never went to state or back to cross country. You don't want to do that. Just be the best you can be...

I know, I feel the same way. Is there anyone in class you don't like that is a really good runner? There is this really annoying kid in my class who's time is 5 something, and he tells me he can beat me in anything.
Do you kind of feel like you want to be perfect? Have no flaws? I never want to admit my mistakes or flaws.
It's called being a perfectionist. I'm OBSESSED with being the best in EVERYTHING. Are you?
If so, we have something in common. Don't try to go to a councelor or try to stop it, it's a good thing...I think.
It kind of makes you push yourself to the maximum.
