. I’m looking for a home remedy.
Our family pet, a 3-year-old golden retriever she has a hematoma on her ear that has recently worsened, and she constantly shakes her head vigorously, making it bleed. I think it accompanying an ear infection. I've treated for ear mites and no avail. I’m looking for a home remedy.
Thank you,

For the hematoma you have to go to a vet; much safer that way.

The ear infection can be treated with a home remedy. There are 2 that work quite well. My cocker that I got from the animal shelter kept severe ear infections and built up a resistance to every antibiotic the vet gave her so she suggested I try to find an herbal remedy which I did; while she still monitored her condition.

I don't really like this 1st remedy because it seemed to sting her ear but it was perioxide and white vinegar. The vet recommended it but I wasn't pleased with it but it did cure the infection.

The 2nd I LOVE you can either buy it or make it yourself and it works WONDERS! It is boriac acid powder; alcohol, and genetian violet all combined and if you can get your hands on collidial silver to add to the mixture it is even better! This mixture soothes the ear; drys the ear and heals the infection and doesn't sting as bad. Put some in the ears twice a day for a week and then once a day for another week for severe infections.

Also make sure to clean the ears out good with a ear cleaning solution and ear powder.

An ear treatment for infection and earmites and general ear cleaner is a equal amount of water, apply cider vinegar & rubbing alcohol. Apple Cider Vinegar is the healing agent, the rubbing alcohol is a drying agent and the water is to dilute so it won't burn as bad when applied. Apply to both ear canals, as much as the canal will hold and massage base of ear after application to help loosen and rub up debri. Wipe with paper towel.

The hematoma is a different issue and should be left to Vet. to take care of. Trying to treat this at home is not a good idea simple because you do not have the knowledge or the tools or the med.s necessary to do the job.

For the hematoma you need to have the dog under sedation and they open it and drain it. Then sew a large button on each side of the ear. The buttons on each side are heald by surgical thread which allows the blood to drain out of the ear and allow the flap to heal together. Once healed they clip the thread and the buttons come off.
This should NOT be done at home. It requires that the dog be sedated. Not a home thing.
Ear mites can be treated at home with over the counter drops. BUT if you have infection you are going to need prescription antibiotics to clear up the infection and those are only going to come from your vet.
Your pet needs to be seen by the vet.

There is no home remedy for a hematoma. The hematoma is caused by the dog shaking his head constantly because of fleas, ear mites or ear infection. The skin on the ear separates from the cartilage and the only sure cure is for a vet to stitch the skin back to the cartilage. However, the ear will always be deformed after this procedure. The best cure is really to prevent the flea infestation in the first place and keep your dogs ears clean.... and ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

hate to say it, but she needs to see a vet- may have a yeast or bacterial infection that is making her ears itchy and causing her to shake her head. No home remedy for this. The hematoma needs to be drained and the ear may need to be surgically tacked down to prevent it from recurring. Once she's all better, always make sure to dry her ears thouroughly after baths or going in the water. Her breed is prone to ear infections. Oh! afterthought... It may also be allergies- seasonal, environmental, food based- they can make ears itchy too. Ask your vet.

If you do not have the surgery soon, the scar tissue will build up and the ear will be PERMANENTLY deformed!!! This is a painful condition and needs treatment!! The underlying ear infection should be treated also!!!!!
Why are you not seeking treatment for the family pet?????? Is it only a good family pet if it doesn't cost any money???????
Maybe christmas needs to be a little leaner this year so a member of the family can get better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trust me, it won't cost NEAR $4,000!!! Usually a couple hundred to get the surgery, and while the dog is under, they will flush the ear out and treat any infection!!

Trust me my last dogs ear infection cost me over $4000.00. Don't try to take the cheap way out PAY THE VET!!!!! It took three years and even hundreds more until finally we had no choice but get a total ear ablation. I took the dog to vet from day one. Don't mess with ear infections if you don't know how. No one here can help you more than a your vet.....My dog had a horrible gram negative infection that was resistant to every med we tried.

No home remedy, why are you wasting your time? Just take the animal to the vet.
