Most definitely refined sugar and refined carbohydrates like lollies, soft drinks and cakes create dental cavities.
This is usually in the form of sucrose.

Sugar in fruit (fructose) is basically ok as is the sugar in milk(lactose) as long as you don't have it continually in your mouth.

Go to the dentist and pick up some brochures for your project. I can even send a digital xray of my teeth showing the results of sugar addiction

Sugar causes cavities so it would be the sugar in the coffee that causes the problem.

Caffeine doesn't cause your teeth to decay but can stain your teeth on the other hand sugar does cause decay if it is left on your teeth. For instance if you want to drink a sugary drink make sure your rinse with water afterwards same with eating sugary food.

IT'S NOT CAFFEINE IN COFFEE THAT STAINS TEETH IT'S THE OTHER COMPOUNDS WITHIN THE BREW. SUGAR FEEDS BACTERIA. THESE CAUSE THE CAVITIES.

It could be that and a munber of things. Another thing is food just sitting in your teeth and rotting away at enamel and causing weakspots for other harmful things to enter. There is also the fact that your mouth is a moist environment and moisture, warm can eat away at anything like tooth enamel or even bones.
