Hi, recently I lost a family member to cancer. It has got me to thinking that maybe people should be checked once a year to see if they might have beginning stages so that you could have better odds of fighting the cancer. My question is, what kindof tests are available and is it possible or worth it to see a doctor once a year for this? Does anyone else see a doctor often just to make sure they are cancer-free? (I am not talking about breast cancer specifically, just any kind of cancer.)

Mammograms can test for breast cancer. PSA test can test for prostate cancer. Dermatologists can do an exam for skin cancer. These once a year tests or exams can detect cancer at an early stage and increase your chance of survival.

Tests don't prevent cancer, they merely detect it.
Early detection is the key to survival.
Talk to YOUR Doctor about your concerns.
He/She can give you the best advice on what/when you should be tested.
