Why do Ger Chasidim wear the 3/4 length pants tucked in their socks? (And no, it's not because of mud.)?

I read one reason is so their pants don't touch the floor which is considered unholy. Another reason being that they just haven't changed their style all that much in the past few hundred years. It's not just the Ger, the Bobovers do it too and probably some others.

Also so rats can't run up their trouser legs.

Alternatively if you put ferrets down your trousers they don't fall out the leg holes.
