advil or tylenol is what i was recommended. didn't completely relieve the pain, but it helped to ease it.

Oh, no. Go with a paracetamol. That way it doesn't get stuck in your brace! Eat soft foods up until your teeth feel able to go back to solids. When you get your brace you will be told to steer away from chewing gum. I don't even see the logic to suggest that it makes the pain go away faster.

I still have them on. You can't get rid of the pain completely, but:
Keep teeth clean, like brushing them
They migt have gave you wax, if the wire is hitting your gums, put wax on it.
Don't eat hard foods, eat gelatin, soup, etc.

its gonna hurt like hell the first week or so, and then whenever you get them tightened. take some advil, avoid lots of chewy/hard foods. you could try putting oragel on your teeth, that works for toothaches so it might work. never tried it tho. it will get better with time.

just tough them out.... the pain will go away after a few days or so, its not that bad
