chains go on the drive tires and its a good idea to practice getting them on and off in the driveway, before you ever have to do it for real. Personally, from personal experience, there are cheap crappy tire chains, and there are well made expensive tire chains. Les scwhab a well known tire store on the west coast, sells a quick fit set. These are heavy duty tire chains, that can be mounted quickly and easily, which is a bonus when in the snow.and its cold, and if you do not use them you can return them after april first and get all your money back. also sometimes cheap tire chains, do not have everything you need, so go to a tire store, and ask for help, do this while the weather is nice, and you will be well prepared when the time comes. chains are for mainly ice, and low speed, the faster you go past 20 the faster your chains will wear out and break links, You cannot drive on pavement, so if the ice ends, you must stop and take the chains off whenever necessary.

being an awd putting them on the front is best as the front getst the better traction. don't drive on dry pavement though. Check them frequently to be sure they are not coming undone as if they do they will cause severe body damage to your car and can also cut the brake lines...not a good thing.
