i really don't care if people are looking, i tell my cat (and the neighbor's dog) nursery rhymes, sing songs to them, dance with them, get down on the floor and roll around with them, talk to them like they are a grandchild (i'm a grandpa, so i'm old enough to not care what people think of a crazy old man reciting poetry to a cat) recite poetry to them, share ideas for paintings. i think my cat even looks at me like she thinks i'm a bit off the bubble sometimes.

I've never been the kind to hide it, it just happens I guess. My boyfriend use to think I was nuts for talking to my cat at my mom's house, I don't know what it was, she was old and seemed to actually listen and react. My other cats I would openly play hide and seek, baby talk and even just talk to them like real ppl, lol sometimes she would let me dance w/ her and she'd somehow follow along. Then when my boyfriend found our new kitten he turned into this new guy. Now he kisses Chiquito (the kitten), hugs him and baby talks him if front of anybody, my boyfriend looks like a grizzly bear but he's a teddy inside.

My husband used to think I was nuts too until he noticed how smart our cats are and how well they understand us. I always try to explain their emotions and behaviors to him. So, now I don't really care if anyone is looking or not.
I play with them a lot. I stuck one of those fuzzy stuffed flowers in their cat tree and we play with that, with paper towel rolls, empty water bottles, just about anything. I call them pet names and pick them up for lots of hugs and kisses. I talk to them all the time, in English, in baby talk, in cat noises that sound a bit more like bird cooing and trilling.
We also have a parrot, so my husband sings to her.

I sing to my cats, too! I talk in a high-pitched, silly "baby" voice and I have little special nicknames for them.
I give them lots of kitty treats, and I call it "candy." When I say, "Do you want some candy?" they head to the kitchen, happy and meowing.
I don't think it's at all unusual for pet owners to do "silly" things. You're sure to get a lot of responses to your question, so you can show your husband and say, "I told you so!"

I ask my cats for their opinions on this color or that, this recipe or that... I dance to them... I sing a particular (made-up) ditty to them when I brush their fur; another ditty when I brush their teeth; and still another when I just want to play with them. But then, I am batty so no one here at home raises eyebrows anymore about anything I do re my cats.

I talk to my cat a lot. And Tika sometimes meows back as if trying to have a conversation with me. I also tell her how pretty she is...and I play the cat meow wav files I have on my computer. Tika gets a kick out of hearing them, she starts head-butting me and purrs loudly!

We sing songs like that to our cat. Her name is Moses. We sing "she's a MO House, mighty mighty, letting all hang out" She's a pretty fat cat.
Don't worry I think most people talk/sing to their animals.

I don't have any cats right now, but my sister, has 3 and each of them are special, in their own way. So when I'm around them, I speak diffrently than usual, I hug them a lot, and when they'll let me, give them kisses, too!!!

You know the "Ompa-Loompa" song from "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?" My one cat's name is Timm-Katt. I change it to "Ompa-Lumpa dupity, do. There is a Timm-Katt looking at you."
Also, Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" has been changed:
Another cat bites the brush.
Another cat bites the brush.
And another one meows and another meows
Another cat bites the brush.
Hey--gonna get you too!
Another cat bites the brush.
My one cat lets me use him to "lift weights." sometimes. He's a big kitty...probably pushing 25 lbs.
