I am heading out to Utah, which is better Alta or Snowbird? I am going with my 10 year old son. We are both advanced skiers (almost expert). Convenience is key. Any insight is apprceiated.

I know the answer to this one!

They are both great! You can get a ticket that allows you to ski both mountains.

The low-down:

Snowbird - a little more glitzy atmosphere, and snowboarders.

Alta - has soul, and no snowboarders.

They are both challenging mountains, but with lots of beginner stuff as well. Alta does have more "flat spots" here and there. Some of the best stuff is only known to locals, and requires hiking, which is why Alta retains soul.

I left NY 5 years ago to ski Alta, and I think I will end up dying here. Best mountain in America outside Jackson Hole. Although Snowbird is a close 2nd or 3rd.

You may need to elaborate on "convenience". I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that. Lodging, shopping? The mountains are adjacent to each other, and share common conveniences. They both have lodging, ski shops, food, etc, and shuttles drive between the two as well. They are both the same distance from Salt Lake City.

Our ski areas in Utah are each quite unique, and I recommend you ski more than one.

In that link above you will find additional links to the resorts, including alta and snowbird.
