illyria : uhh how bout it's someone else's dog and I'm just concerned because I'm an animal lover. I'm trying to stop this because their kids love their dog. Stop making assumptions, you only make yourself look stupid.

If your dogs hyper activity is too much for you to handle, you can place him in a shelter and maybe someone will adopt him who needs a high energy dog to jog with. If nobody adopts your pet from the shelter after some time then yes, he will be put down...for being too hyper. But it's your choice. Maybe you should just take him to the park and let him run it off every afternoon.

no! unless the dog has done damage to a human being and it has to be serious damage like ripping open skin and being malicious then the victim can sue u and press charges and the state law may force u to do something about it but most often puting the dog down is a last resort. unless u give the ok a vet cannot put down ur dog for being hyper active. he has to appeal to a court that the dog needs to be put down because it is a danger to the public and u can choose who puts the dog down and how the dog is put down. and that ONLY applys if the dog has attacked another dog or animal or a human. and u get more than one chance usually if the dog has done any dmage. u have to keep a muzzle on it for a deamed amount of time until the dog is cnsidered safe for other people and animals. if the dog as provoked u can appeal that to the court and all charges may be forcefully lifted by the court if they deem the dog safe.

I really dont think that they can just for the dog being hyper. My Jack Russell is very hyper and I would never even think about that. The vets I believe need some kind of medical reason to do it and just being hyper is not a medical reason. Some dogs are just natually more energetic than others.

i wish we could put you down in a heartbeat for asking such a question. we know what you are really getting at.
no any good vet in their right mind wouldn't put down a dog for being hyper. Instead of KILLING IT why dont you TRAIN IT?!?! or take it to the humane society where it could get a home with someone who has half a brain that could train it.?!?!
Dont listen to these idiots - i have NEVER met a vet that would put a pet down without a good reason.

A vet will do what the owners tell it to do. Period. They can give advice or offer to turn it over to a local rescue group. But, if the owner says to put it down....then they have to put it down. Sometimes the vet can refuse, but they usually don't. I puppy-sat for a lady who went to Germany for 3 months to take care of her dying son and she orignally had 3 lhasa apsos, but only brought me 2 of them to puppy-sit. She said she had the 3rd one put down by the vet because she didn't like to be brushed and she didn't want to her bite me. I was upset...but it was her decision. fyi- sometimes a hyper dog just needs to be exercised and exercised and exercised. Good luck!

a vet can't question your reasons for wanting to put your pet down. They might prefer to just give advice though.

They can anytime they wish. They're officials so they're trusted to use their best judgement. After all they see dogs as merely "property" and not live things so it simply goes from there.

no, but in some states they can put down the owner if it is in the best interest of the dog.
