We got a couch from a friend, but it's too wide for the door by 1/2 and inch. The way the apartment works, you go up a flight of stairs then the door is at the right, so there isn't a lot of wiggle space. We unhinged the door, which didn't work.

Someone recommended taking off the door molding which scares us. Anyone ever done this? Hoisting through a window is not an option. Thanks!

Most sofas have removable feet. They usu. screw on. Also, you can try turning the sofa and tying down the back cushions or removing the filling to squish it through.

Have you thought of taking the couch apart to fit through door?

Depends how much additional space you need. You may need to pop the hinge pins on the door, remove the door and you will get an additional 3-4 inches. Will that be enough?

Ah couch, sorry I thought you said Crouch as in Peter Crouch the footballer, I thought you had brought him home for tea or something and his lanky frame wouldn't fit through the door. lol

You can take the doors and trim off, that will gain you a half inch. You can also buy a chain saw.
