I take it it means the other person loved you equally??

Because I have falled in love - they dont love me - heartbroken I feel I have lost. I therefore wish I had never loved at all.

Am i alone in this??

Many people have loved and not had their feelings reciprocated. You WILL meet someone and they WILL return the compliments. You are not alone in this.

Yes the love would have been equally felt. It is better to have loved and lost because if you weren't the one hurting with a broken heart, then you would be the one who broke someone's elses heart. One thing that can't ever be taken away from you, was those happy memories you shared for a period of time with this person no matter how brief it was. Life is a learning curve, learn from this and one day you will find someone special to love and share your life with you completely. Hope you start to feel happier soon. You are not alone, People who really love have all been there many times, but you will find that special person one day, believe me.

I think you're right - I think it means it's better to have had a failed love affair with someone who loved you back than to never have had love at all, or never being brave enough to fall in love. I am the queen of unrequited love - I've never yet managed to fall in love with a person who returns it. So, like you, I hate that saying and find it very depressing. One day, I tell myself, I will fall in love with a person who loves me, and then maybe I'll think differently. I'm sorry you feel heartbroken. I hope you know you're not alone and that there are thousands of folk just like you, including me! Good luck in the future... and don't ever let yourself get too bitter or hurt that you stop trying to love. Always keep an open mind and an open heart. xx

It's harder when you don't get the chance to be with someone who you love. To wish not to love them, well that is not the case because you never know. For one thing you would never learn how to deal with those feelings if you brush them a side. Just learn from it and transfer those things and pass the good onto the next person who will love you.

your quote is from Alfred, Lord Tennyson and it it basically saying that to experience love of any kind even if you then loose the object of your love is better than going through life never experiencing love at all.

I empathise with your situation, but agree with Alfred. At first it hurts, but would you turn back time and not fall in love with that person again, even if you knew you'd loose them?

Life goes on (after a little while) and then you will be better for it....

good luck

I think it really refers to your experience of life - it's still better to have experienced love even if only for a short time than to never experience it.

But I don't know if it's true for many people actually.

My dad died a few years ago and my mum is so sad without him. Yes, she got memories of the good times they shared, but I don't know if that makes up for losing him.

And I'd be devastated if anything happened to my man.

It's better to have loved than not loved.
But the whole loved and lost thing is pretty sucky really.

Hope you feel better soon.

Unrequited love is the worst thing ever! It happened to me and it still hurts years later, I personally think that this saying sucks! It is not better to have loved and lost! What kind of wierdo made that up. I would much rather have went without the pain and been on my own! I am sure there are other people with me on this! x

For an accurate answer you need to state the method of loss.If they cheated on you, you might be best off without. If they left you for someone else then ouch, that's pretty harsh. If they died well that's sad and time might help you get over it.Best of luck. You aren't alone.

No. There are many other people in the world who fell the same way. There are many other fish in the sea, you cant find love in only one person.
