I wouldn't go. I don't want government perverts watching me with their cameras.

Oh my goodness! This is just such a wake up call to someone like me who is British- I know that people here are saying they don't want to travel to the USA right now for fear of terrorist attacks etc, but when I see this question wiritten about people coming to my country it's kind of hard to take.

I can understand your problem in a way, but the UK is not all about London you know- I live in Scotland which is also in the UK and I can tell you that if you came to Scotland, you would be welcomed by some of the friendliest people in the world. You would be staying in one of the most beautiful parts of the world you can imagine-and you would be in one of the safest places in the world!

You can fly direct to our wonderful country from the USA and I can highly reccommend staying in Glasgow if you're looking for a city based holiday. Please, hire a car, the Western Isles of Scotland is an amazing place and very easily accessable from Glasgow.
The Scottish Highlands are trully spectacular too!

In our inner towns and cities yes there are cctv cameras to help prevent crime against our people, but speaking as a Scot (born & bred) I can honestly say that I have never even considered that I am being watched in the way you describe. Perhaps it's very different in London, but here it is really not a problem. CCTV cameras are really only in heavily populated areas, and most places in Scotland don't have cameras- theres nothing to see except countryside, mountains and animals!

Please don't let this stop you from visiting us- come to Scotland- you will be welcomed with open arms I promise you!

I live in the U.K. The cameras are there for a reason. Many a person has been saved from muggings, beatings and worse, because certain area are being watched. Trained operators man the cameras, not "government perverts". If you do nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear. The cameras are there for our safety, not to spy on you in the bathroom.

I live here in London UK. I don't mind the cameras, you really don't notice them unless, I suppose, if you were about to commit a crime. They're good for evidence if something happens. Apparently we're caught on camera on average 300 times a day! But it's okay....a lot of the cameras look over car parks and town centres at night so police can spot trouble and be quick to react.

The thing I would HATE is ID cards, though. While I don't mind being seen on camera surely I have a right to privacy of who I am? I know 'they' already know tons about us through what is kept on records eg. work, NHS etc. but I don't want bolshy cops (I know most cops are NOT bolshy), insisting I show my ID just because they can.

So if that comes in over here....I don't know...I will resist.
