What makes you think he has ear mites? Has he been around cats? generally, that's the only time dogs get them is when they are housed with cats who have ear mites.
If you don't actually think he has fleas, are you using the advantage as a preventative? If so, this is great, but itching can be something different. Maybe allergies or mites? Dry skin? Has his diet changed? A vet kennel should not have fleas, as they would treat ASAP an oncoming boarder for this.

Topical flea prevention can take up to 48 hours to fully work. If he continues to scratch, a different flea prevention may be the answer for you. Pets are just like people - to each their own. Advantage didn't work as well as I had hoped on my dog, but others love it. Also, it is a possibility they could infest your home and yard. If it continues and you see fleas, you may want to think about an exterminator. Dogs generally don't get ear mites.. This is not to say they don't get them. The problems I see most are infections caused by bacteria or yeasts. If you notice a kinda "moldy/mildew/musty" smell from his ears, he's scratching, and they're red, it's very likely to have an infection. Your vet can do an ear swab to see what's going on in there and get some medications to help!

My dogs seemed to have Frontline and Advantage not fully working anymore over the past half year plus two of my dogs were sensitive to it anyway. I started using BioSpot on them which is much milder for the dog but has so far been very affective against the fleas. Don't over bathe your dog and if you want to try another product, since you just put one on, wait until your Vet says it is safe to change. Get your Vet to prescribe treatment for the ear mites. Taht is miserable for a dog or a cat to have.

if you are not sure he had fleas to begin with then he may have dry skin or an allergy. A dog will have fleas until the flea bites the dog. Advantage will work all the time when put on no dog comes "accustomed" to it

Take him back to the vet and ask them to check your dog over for fleas and ear mites and remind them that he didn't have any before he was put in their kennel.

Advantage may take up to 24 hours to work completely. It could be that he has a skin allergy. You really need to take him to a vet. Also, he will need ear drops for the mites - another reason to get him to the vet right away.

i like revolution, seems to artwork extra effective, so is the single i choose to advise. Frontline did no longer artwork all that large as quickly as I had fleas on my very own cats, even though it works solid in canines. do no longer bear in mind utilising benefit..... putting it on the tummy wont harm as long as he doesnt lick it off. in case you do be certain to place it there rather of the shoulder blades, you're able to place an e-collar for an afternoon. I completely understand maltese hair :-) yet you're able to try the neck first, merely area the hair and start up very extreme up and artwork your way down the decrease back.
