Anti-Spyware is a "run often" thing. Its fine to run one type, then another, just not at once. They do not continue to run, but complete their job and shut down.
Anti-Virus on the other hand run all of the time, protecting you by scanning every running process on your computer.
And Like inspectors, each thinks they know better than the next and will conflict with each other.

you can run 2 anti-spyware programs
for example spybot and adaware (spybot will pop up a window saying you have adaware)
with no problems
but 2 anti-virus programs however is not recommended or good.
they will conflict with each other and casue problems
