We're renovating in New Orleans and hadn't been able to stain our new front doors. Now I'm noticing little mold or mildew spots? What's the best way to remove them so that I don't damage the wood?

Bleach to kill the mildew. Tri sodium phosphate to clean it off.

I would take bleach and dilute it with water about 50/50, put on some rubber gloves and take a rag soak it in the bleach water and wring it out almost dry then wipe the areas of the wood where the mildew is. When the mildew stains are gone rinse out the rag in plain water and wipe the area again so the bleach doesn't discolor the wood. Then I guess you would need to find some place to put the doors where they can air dry. Good luck with your renovations.

if it is unstained you can either paint it or sand it... I doubt you will be able to remove the stain with any chemical or cleaner. You could consider replacing the piece of wood if the issue is that big. Maybe explain the situation to the landlord, its not like you took hammers to the walls...

4 parts water to 1 part bleach (i.e 4 cups water, 1 cup bleach)
Let dry thoroughly before staining
