Yes, as he gets older he might get cataracts, but they can be treated and vision restored just like in people . Try not to worry and enjoy him as he is and as long as he is OK, well , later on perhaps by then you have some money saved and he can get his sight back . My Maltese is 18 years old and just about blind .So you see, all animals can get it .
Good luck to 'ya .

I just euthanized my 22 and 1/2 year old cat and she did not have cataracts. I doubt if her vision was truly great and she definitely was not blind. Cameo lived most of her life completely outdoors without a real home.

Ultraviolet light is very damaging to the eyes for humans, dogs, cats etc. I wonder if your vet could tell you if the incidence of cataracts in cats and dogs has risen significantly in recent years. That and skin cancer has risen dramatically in humans with the deterioration of the ozone layer.

If your cat spends time outside I would seriously consider limiting it to the early morning and early evening hours. If you have kept him in because of having only one eye I think her would not be subject to cataracts.

for a cat, I take it that he's an outside cat? If he's used to being interior, some issues that would want to help him are those: do not bypass your fixtures. Your cat is conscious the position those issues is and at the same time as he does bypass blind, he will nonetheless be able to bypass round them. evaluate getting a large cat cage for once you're lengthy previous for better than some hours. He might want to hate it at the start, despite the indisputable fact that it is going to better than in all likelihood change right into a probability-free position for him the position he feels smooth and look after in his blindness. you may want to get a cage with a part door that you go away open each and every of the time, and positioned the foodstuff and water and clutter field interior. Your cat will do ok if saved interior, being outdoors is style of a death project. sturdy success and save in thoughts, purely because he's blind doesn't make him a lot less of a cat, he may even stay playful or change into playful back afterwards. attempt getting him some toys with bells on them...if he performs in any respect.

They can but a cat can still function. We had a cat that was blind for the last 3 years of her life but you wouldn't know it. She was still queen cat too!

they can happen my cousin had a cat hat was 19 and she was deaf and blind but got around the house perfeclty. if you cat does go blind don't worry about it he'll be fine you won't even notice really, just don't move things around or place him in and unknown area, he needs to know where he is
