Having spent time in S. Korea, I can tell you there is several military land bases in country. As far as Sea Duty goes, I can only imagine that it's a Navy saying.

The allied effort which consist of mostly American forces is split between duty stations on or near the DMZ and bases that are in the south that are considered support.

Duty on the DMZ is not very comfortable as the bars are few and far between and as a rule you are generally on alert status living in the dirt. You know, just in case Kim decides to make a move. My experience at the regular bases always include nightly trips down to the local village or city which can turn into a soldiers dream or nightmare but, will no doubt make for good story telling when you turn Grey.

As far as bases go there is Osan AB and KIMPO(the big airport in Souel) the ARMY has CAMPS and alot of them from the DMZ down to Pusan, but since you mention "SEA DUTY" and bad I assume you are asking about the MARINES and when I was in KOREA in 88-89 the marines spent half their time on ship and the other in "TENT CITIES" we would build for them. In the Army it was (maybe still is ) considered a "HARDSHIP TOUR" that meant NO DEPENDENTS for most soldiers (O-4 and below I believe) and NO CARS for E-6 and below . Now "SOME" soldiers would shack up in a "HOOCH" in the ville for $30 bucks a month to landlord/mamasan/pimp and a bottle of jack and some marlboro reds a girl would give you happy ending ,wash/iron uniforms AND polish your boots DAILY!eventhough no one owned it per se we "SHARED" an austrailian ford granada add to this the slot machines in the NCO club and the "STEAM BATHS' that were ON POST ,it was KICK *** DUTY!
