Lots and lots of good luck. Check your local paper daily. It may take a year or two.

Go to your local humane shelter. They have a list where you can specify what kind of dog you would like. When a dachshund comes in looking for a good home then they will give you a call!
Good luck in finding one.

Look in the newspaper under the classifides sometimes there are people just trying to find homes for the pets they cant keep anymore. If you go to a shelter they will charge you an adoption fee but its worth spending the money to save a life. God bless!

There's a Dachshund Rescue in every state. If I knew what state you were in, I'd look it up for you.

I don't know where you can get that specific breed for free but if you go out to the country there are always kittens and puppies for free my dad is a driver for a living and he is always seeing animals for free mostly in the spring and summer.

Call the animal care and control office in your city, typically call a Kill Shelter, because they KILL dogs that are not adopted. Go save a dog! Woof!

Also try the ASPCA/SPCA.
