I've been told catholics pray the rosary to go to heaven. is this true? Do you believe your sarifice and good works get you to heaven? Think about this, you are God you told people how to act and they disobey not only that they curse you not only that they try to prove you wrong. They laugh at you, but you forgive them and give your ONLY son as a SACRIFICE for all the wrong these people have done. When you face the Lord do you believe your sacrifice matches God's? No amount of prayer will get you to heaven. Ephesians 2 8:9 It is by GRACE of God you are saved, THROUGH FAITH. Not by your good deeds so that no man may boast.

What is your answer catholics?

The reason why i pray the rosary because i grew up in the Catholic faith. Back in May 2010, one month after i made my confirmation/first communion, my mom taught me about the rosary. I didn't know how it was to work but then i learned it's way to connect with God and to the Virgin Mary. At first i thought the rosary was vain repetitious and useless but then i realized it's not. It's very useful and meaningful. As a devout Catholic, i try to encourage others to do it also. I remember one Sunday night during Lent season, i was at a Catholic church for Eucharist adoration. And i pulled out my rosary and started praying. And one time on Father's day, i got my dad a pair of rosary beads. Hoping it would him rebuild his Catholic faith. But nothing. I pray for him.

First of all, you should have asked the question "why do Catholics pray the Rosary" because you've been gravely misinformed. Just so that you know, it has been a constant teaching of the Catholic Church that we are saved by God's Grace, (it is not earned). But if we have become God's friend and He is our Father, it is natural to want to "talk" with Him. Thus we pray. The Rosary is simply one form of devotional prayer that many Catholics have benefited from for many centuries.

Deeds alone can't get you to heaven, and I don't pray to get to heaven. You pray for guidance and strength of faith. You pray for intervention in people's lives or your own. Often, when people pray the rosary they have a hope or thought in their head like spiritual guidance or strength. So praying the rosary is about increasing faith and praying for help for others. Theres also something psychological to the repetition. The repetition strengthens your belief and faith because you tend to believe more, the more you hear it. Also, you meditate on the mysteries of the Lord and how amazing he is. Its really a faith building exercize.

We, catholics, were taught several ways to pray or converse with God and these are personal prayer, reflective prayer, contemplative prayer and communal prayer. Praying the rosary is both contemplative and communal prayer. It is a contemplative form of prayer because we contemplate on the life of Jesus in the different mysteries of the rosary and these are the Joyful Mystery where we contemplate on the nativity of Jesus as written in the Bible, the Sorrowful mystery where we contemplate on the agony and death of Jesus as written in the Bible and Jesus' Resurrection as written in the Bible. We start with the Nicene Creed then the Our Father as taught by Jesus in Luke 11:2-4 and reciting the Hail Mary as enunciated by the angel when he appeared to Mary to announce the birth of the Son of God in Luke 1:28-31 then its mystery is ended with an exaltation glorifying God.

It is a communal prayer in that it can be prayed by the community as one people of God.

Praying the rosary will not automatically bring one to heaven, neither are the forms of prayer will. It is how you live your life as God's witness that will bring you to heaven when you die.

We don't pray the Rosary to get into heaven. The rosary is a tool to help meditate on the mysteries. The glory of Christ's birth, the suffering of His sacrifice, etc, etc, etc.... as written in the bible. The rosary isn't biblical, but the message and the mechanist of meditating with the rosary helps understand what is written in the bible. Is there anything wrong with trying to better understand Christ's life, regardless of how you do it?

Why do catholics pray the rosary?

Many non-Catholics have been trained from childhood to believe that one of the clear proofs of the falsity of Catholicism is to be found in the honor that is paid to the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Catholic Church, and in the innumerable trusting prayers that are offered to her by Catholics. At the same time it is true that many non-Catholics, when they learn what are the genuine foundations of Catholic devotion to Mary, are drawn by it so irresistibly that ultimately they become Catholics. For the truth is very simple and clear, and is all contained in the following two truths.

1. Mary is the Mother of God (Luke 1:43). Catholics do not believe that God was bound by any compulsion to have a Mother; they believe that He chose to have a Mother and all that this implies. He chose to permit His human body to be formed in her womb (Luke 1:35).

He chose to permit her to bring Him forth as a tiny baby into the world. He chose to let her feed Him at her breast, carry Him in her arms, guard Him from danger, and teach Him as any child would be taught, to walk and speak and pray. He thereby chose to grant Mary a power over Him that only love can bestow (Luke 2:51). Catholics believe that in choosing a mother, the Son of God chose to grant her the power over His will that the love of a good mother always wields over a good son.

2. Mary is a mother to all men. Catholics believe that the Son of God chose to come into the world through a mother in order that that mother might accept as His brothers all the children of the sinful race of man. He set an example as to how she should be honored and loved. He prepared her for this motherhood of all by asking her to suffer every conceivable form of pain (Luke 2:35), thus teaching her sympathy for the sorrows of her children. Had she been His Mother alone, He would have spared her from pain, because He had the power to do so and because He loved her with an infinite love. He wrought His first public miracle at her request (John 2:1-11), and when He was dying He reminded her that she had been destined from the beginning to be a Mother to all (John 19:27). Catholics therefore believe that Mary will be as eager to help them, in troubles of soul and body, as every natural mother is eager to promote the welfare of her child.

The rosaries that Catholics recite are but the expression of their belief in these two truths (Luke 1:48). They know that if Mary speaks to her divine Son in their behalf, there can be no doubt about their receiving an answer to their prayers.

Praying the rosary is to reflect upon the very life of Jesus. To pray the Rosary is to pray the Gospel. This is because one reflects on the different mysteries, and when you have reflected on them, you have in essence reflected on the entire life of Jesus.

The efficacy of the Rosary is not in earning your way to heaven, or on what you are calling "good works." Its efficacy is because when you are sincere in praying it, you are really contemplating Jesus' life, and the meaning of his death and suffering, and resurrection. It is through this contemplation, that the soul improves itself. You become a better person through it, and more devoted.

One does not pray the rosary to get to heaven or to earn salvation. One is already saved, and wants to increase their devotion to Christ and one's walk with God. One wants to reflect on the life of our Lord, out of love and worship of Him. So the rosary is a way to do that.

You are saved by grace through faith, but you are not then excused from doing good works. It's just that you don't do them to earn heaven. You do them because you WANT to, because you love the Lord and wish to get ever closer to Him, and to know him and understand His life more and more. "If you love me, you will keep my commandments."

The prayers of the rosary are based entirely on the Gospel. The source for the prayers in it are the Gospel itself.

What exactly was God's sacrifice? If Jesus was
a) part of God
b) ressurrected
then what was the sacrifice? Did anyone ASK Him to do this? No. Therefore we don't OWE him for it. God does what he wants to do and doesn't ask anyone's opinion. Fine, thats legitimate. But then don't expect us to change our point of view or our actions to accomadate Him. Everything that happens is His will, so his expectations are based entirely on His actions. So be it.
