In Windows XP system folders like My Computer have a "Favorites" menu on the Menu Toolbar next to the "Tools" menu. This is a nifty feature but we need to remove it to enhance the security settings o the computer. (The PC is not allowed to access the internet.)
Is there a registry setting or a simple solution to this problem? How do I get rid of this?

The reason for removing the menu is consistancy. We are building and installing approx.12-15 PCs per week and wish them to be as user proof as possible. The networks that the machines are installed on vary widely so a server or router based solution to our problem is not feasible. We have had a lot of problems over the years with users hacking their way through restrictions and causing problems with the product software. Spyware and viruses are the number one reason for PC downtime with our product. It was decided to eliminate all access to the internet. Our attempt to remove this menu is simply an effort to remove the temptation to attempt to tamper with the system. They already do not have access to the internet or even to a browser, as I have said it is an effort towards consistancy of the final product.

Thanks for the help.

the favorite menu is part of the operating system, if you want to access the net, go to your add or remove programs, then run a regit/exe/ as fot the internet go in the control panel and right click on the internet options icon, and the type the desired web page you wish to view.

You maybe over-complicating things, if the computer is not permitted to access the internet at all then remove it from the network. If it needs to be on the network but you still don't want it to have internet access, set your router to deny it internet access. Depending on your network setup & hardware the difficulty level of this ranges from very easy to extremely complicated. If you can post more about your network, specifically what hardware (routers, etc.) you're using I may be able to walk you through it.

In any case, the favorites menu shouldn't really be an issue. If the comp can't connect to the 'net, then why does it matter if there's a favorite menu?
