Okay, so I'm not tech-savvy so please don't be too technical on me. I had just gotten an HD service from Comcast and had them installed the box for me. Now I noticed that the connectors they used is the one for Analog component, and the picture is good but it's not the best (except for the channels that broadcast HD). I want to know if I buy an HDMI to DVI cable (the cable box from Comcast has DVI at the back but no HDMI), would it make a huge difference with the picture? I just don't want to spend more money if it's not worth it. Any input from tech-savvy people out there? Thanks a bunch!!!!

It is generally believed that the HDMI/DVI connection gives a better picture, but the difference is not great. A HDMI cable with a DVI adapter need not be expensive; see

With HDMI/DVI if you get a picture at all, it is the best it can be. You will need to keep your present audio cable (hopefully it is a coax or optical cable) connected since DVI does not carry audio. You did not say, but I assume your TV has HDMI. You will have to set it up so that the audio comes in separately.

Moving from component to HDMI/DVI will improve your signal, as you are not connecting pure digital. There are HDMI to DVI cables available on the web. I have had extremely good luck with a site called monoprice.com. They have a complete array of cables and associated hardware and are not afraid to tell you the specification of the cable. I have found no other web site nor manufacture who would do, and that includes the Infamous and pverpriced manufacture MONSTER.

I think there is a difference. I also recently got HD cable, and at first i had it hooked up component but then i bought the DVI to HDMI cable and hooked it up. I think the quality is a little better. I got the cable real cheap at this website, which is completely trustworthy. If you'd rather spend 60 to 100 bucks at Best Buy that's an option too. Hope this helps.

No difference, component and HDMI are pretty similar. HDMI is nice since its a smaller cable. Im a big fan of component.

Having a nice HD tv and getting so so pictures on analog is normal. It sucks. But thats the way it is.
