What are the depth differentiations between pans and pots?

I think the basic difference is this: Pans have a handle that you grab with one hand and pots have one small handle on each side. Pots almost always have lids, while pans might or might not have lids.

Thats a good question. I say that if its as deep or deeper than it is wide, then its a pot. But if the sides are shorter that it is around its a pan. Its ok, my mom can't tell the difference either.LOL

A pan is essentially a skillet, unless it's a saucepan - then it's a pot?!
