how do i know when to substitute ein or nein for die der das for this words

well the question is substitue ein eine for der, die, das

1. der hund
2.die mutter
3. das madchen
5. das worterbuch
6.die familie

so how do i know when to replace ?

2. eine muetter (you put a e after a vowel with an umlaut.)
3. are you sure its "das madchen" I've only heard "die maedchen" which means girl. so that would be eine madchen. (a with umlaut)

basically its ein for der. eine for die. einer for das. einem for words fater a preposition such as "mit" so "mit einem hut" would be "with a hat"

As far as the ein, eine question, it follows gender very closely.
Der is masculine.
Die is feminine.
Das is Neuter.
Ein is Masculine and Neuter.
Eine is only feminine.
Die can also indicate the plural of a noun, but in most cases the word itself will change form. Example:
Singular- Der Mann.....Plural - Die Männer.

The substitution would be as follows:
Ein Hund
Eine Mutter
Ein Madchen
Ein Worterbuch
Eine Familie.

Don't forget that all nouns are Always capitalized.
