Having travelled extensively and shared loads of dorms in
YHA's and Backpackers with a wide variety of people I feel I can answer this question with some authority.

Snoring on the side for blokes anyway is fairly rare. Most snore on their back. When I see a person snore on their side I know that I am in for a very bad night.

Anatomically the head back position promotes snoring. Sometimes a higher pillow works.

By the way snoring can be fixed by a variety of means including homeopathic, dental appliances, abstaining from an excess of beer prior to bed and losing weight

If you snore, sleeping on your side isn't going to stop it. It's completely common. I sleep on my side and snore and so do both my parents.

My husband snores a lot, no matter which position he sleeps in.
He was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and has to sleep with a C-Pap machine. You need to have a sleep study done.
