well, while crating backup there is 3 main issues :
1) Software
2) Disk, u're backuped data will be placed
3) Strategy (in ur case it doesn't matter)
1)As Software u can use win backup utility, but it's not save.
And it's features range is quite poor.
so, it's much better to use 3_rd party software, such as True Image 10. This backup software has just released and can backup musics, video etc. Besides, it's rather cheap,
2) It's up to ur data. U can use DVD's, External disk or any other removable one(True Image, unlike many other, can backup directly to DVD).

You can burn them to a disk if you have a CD-RW or DVD-RW drive. Else you can use a backup program, you can get a 10 Day Trial version of Norton Ghost from the Symantec website. Another option, if you have a router, is just to network the two computers & transfer the files that way.

There's different ways of backing up "stuff", so it all depends on how you want to do it...
1. Backup to a separate Partition. (Copy/Paste)
2. Backup to another harddrive. (Copy/Paste)
3. Backup to DVD/CD. (Burn)
4. Use software such as Acronis True Image to backup and create Image files that later can be restored complete. (including all systems settings)

Of course you can burn disk containing your music and word documents but you can't burn a disk containing your operating system. So I recommend you to use Acronis True Image in order to create a bootable media containing your operating system however you can create a disk/disks containing your media library and important data. Therefore in case your system fails you'll be able to restore it using bootable media and then restore your important data using another disk. Also using the latest True Image you can backup your Outlook files and applications' settings. You can read more about this software or purchase the latest version here: http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/
Or download a free version of True Image here: http://www.acronis.com/mag/vnu-ati7

You could also buy a portable hard drive and copy the things you want onto it. Then when you need it back just plug in the drive and copy it back.
If you're on a Mac then watch this space because in the next version it will back up for you automatically.

Burn it to a disc what ever you have on there you want to save-programs and all is your backup...just in case it crashes, or you need to remove because of overload. You really should do a backup of what ever on your computor anyway...every so often.
