isn't it like they wait 24 hours before they actually start to look for them? i mean, what if in THAT time she's already dead? is there anyway they can change this RULE? (if this is a rule) mmm and also why do they do this? does anyone have good answers or websites that talk about this? like the john ben-nay ram-see case and scott peterson--how long did they take before they started to search for them? (i know it's different for each state in how the police handles this)

Not necessarily. Most agencies will send a statewide or regional message to all agencies reporting that they are looking for the child regardless of their age. They will put his/her description out to other agencies in the form of a BOLO or Be on the look out for......They may not start an actual "man-hunt" until the 24 hours are up but they are getting the information out there to other agencies. It is the same concept as the Amber Alert except the Amber Alert is for the public and the BOLO's are for law enforcement personnel.

Depends on how old she is. If she is over 18, then unless you have proof that foul play is involved, then they will wait 72 hours after she disappears. If she is a minor, they will being looking immediately. The younger the more urgent the search. We had a 4 year old go missing a few years back and within minutes we had K-9 and helicopters and cruisers everywhere.

Many factors will depend on all the facts of her missing,
If there is reason to suspect a crime, also the age of the child will make a difference also

a 6 year old they start looking from the moment it is reported, for a 16 year old, with no sign of any crime, they may wait

A lot of the police's response time depends on such things as - your daughter's age, past behavior of taking off, eye witness accounts of an abduction, that you have check with all known acquaintances, then the amber alert system is being implemented in many states..etc............

Hope that helps some.

sometimes they only wait half that time, considering the circumstances and the age of the child. They want to wait 24 hours because sometimes the person reporting makes a mistake, or the child really didn't run away, etc. They don't want to waste manpower.

age has a lot to do with it. if the missing is a child they start looking right away, if they are say a teen they give it some time because they regulary run away for a day or so and then come back.
