I have a Maine Coon and after eating the Science Diet Hairball dry food, her back would hunch up and she couldn't take more than 3 steps before sitting. She would use the litterbox but not go alot. It would last 2 weeks. I thought she was blocked and after about $1200.00 3 weeks in vet bills we found out it was the Hair ball food.

If your vet substantiated this, then you should contact the Science Diet company and let them know their product can cause this. They need to put a warning on their label or recall the product.

Put him on a dry food that is not hairball control.

And please do contact the company. You spent too much money to just let this ride by.

You really didn't give us much in the way of details. I seriously doubt it was the food, unless your cat had an allergy to an ingredient. Sound like your cat had some other underlying medical problems. There's no way a food allergy alone caused $1200 in vet bills. My Maine Coon eats Authority Hairball Control Formula and is doing great.

Hello, Are you saying that using science diet hairball made your cat sick enough to take to a vet? I have never used this brand. Sometimes I use HEB grocery store brand. But mostly I use the hairball tube(Laxatone). I reserve the food for those that are part wild/ or jumpy. I am so sorry and it is good to know that higher price is not always better. I wish you/ and your kitty good health. GOD BLESS YOU! sus04mc@yahoo.com

Are you saying that the food caused illness to your cat resulting in vet visits/bills?

Not specifically Science Diet, but I have had my cats become ill by feeding them only dry food, with no wet food.

What problems did your cat(s) encounter? I hope they are well now.

I get my Science Diet Cat food at a pet store. After I buy 20 bags I get one free. It is much cheaper than what my vet charges.
