For our guestbook, we are going to use a guestbook from www.guestbookstore.com, which allows people to get creative and write/draw on a page for the guestbook. We plan to have a page for the guestbook at each table setting for the guests to fill out at their leisure and have someone appointed to collect them all before the end of the reception. To encourage the creativity (per the guestbookstore website), we want to provide markers/colored pencils for the guests to use. However, I don't know how to best display them at the guest tables. Our centerpieces are simple white candles in hurricane and votive candle holders. Any suggestions about how to display the colored pencils for people to use, without it looking tacky or disorganized?

If you're having a page at each setting, take 3 or so colored pencils and bind them together with ribbons, or a flower, or something from your wedding theme and set them on each page. The guests at the table can trade colors if they'd like or just use the few they have.

This may cost a little more than you want to spend but to avoid the tacky looking idea of having them in the center you could wrap two or three colored pencils in a ribbon the color of your wedding colors and have them at each individual place setting.... that way your guests could take the pencils home with them after as a memento, and they understand the idea that they have to decorate their own paper for the guestbook. I think that would be a nice little gift idea and its different. But I would not put a bundle of them in the middle for the table its not kindergarden its your wedding.

If you have a page at each table setting, why not combine a coloured pencil or two with the silverware? Make the pencils part of the place setting itself, say right of the spoon or by the salad fork. Keep the pencils close to hand, and they're more likely to be used.

Also consider tying them with a ribbon to the stems of the drinking glasses. The guests will have to pick them up sooner or later that way.

I like the idea of tying the to a flower. But my idea was to place them in a clear glass. Maybe use shorter pencils that could fit into a votive candle holder. Or maybe place one pencil ontop of each place setting. So if you are using real napkins place the pencil on top. If you use something to tie the pencils together get some personalized ribbon. You can get at any online wedding website. That would look very pretty! I like the guestbook idea. It is very different.

First I must say that is a very good idea. Well I think it would look nice if you use cylinders (clear or metal) and have the markers and pencils in the containers standing up. That way it can be part of the table decoration.

Just imagine your center piece and then your candles around that and then you can have your containers around those.

Get metal pails and stick the pencils in...keep similar colors together and you can make a rainbow on each table...or pick one color per table, which would encourage someone from the "red" table to get up and go to the "blue" table if they wanted to use a different color pencil. You cna also keep that theme going and name each table after the color pencil that will be on it.

What if you got little tins or boxes and wrapped them nicely, like gifts - with a lift off lid (like a shirt box) and put the pencils or markers inside of them. You could even use a gift card/tag that specifies what the contents are in and for in lieu of the traditional To/From tags.
Have fun and best of luck

You can get a silk flower and floral tape- secure the flower's stem along the pencil by wrapping with floral tape and make the pencil into the stem. You can coordinate the flower color and the pencil color. Set one at each place setting, or put them together in a small vase.
You can buy them or make your own like these:

Why not fan the pencils out from the base of your centerpieces. Or you could just lay one on each sheet of paper and let the guests trade colors.
