Insecurity in one's own beliefs makes you want to attack others.

That, and attacking others beliefs can be fun if you enjoy getting a rise out of them.

Either reason is plausible.

My only problem is with the Christians who want to turn the US into a theocracy, and Muslims even bothering to spout out the whole religion of peace line.
By the way did you hear the Christian nuts latest,a Muslim was elected to the House of representatives, and all the right wing talk shows were on an on today about him swearing in on the Quran and how wrong it was because "this is a Christian nation" These people are nuts,so if I get on here and treat them as such that's just too bad.

And somebody please thank damian for the amazing myths link, it was indeed the same old crap.

JAMES 3: 8, 9, 10 : But the tongue can no man tame, it is an unruly evil , full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made in the similtude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessings and cursing. My brethren these things ought not to be.

James 4: 17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good and doeth it not to him it is sin.

James 5: 19, 20 Brethren if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

Because there is a battle for the hearts and minds of people in my country. Hate and intollerance for others is being more acceptable and the constitution is being "bent" for the ends of the religious right. The President thinks a specific "god" chose him to be leading the country (and as the only remaining superpower, the world) So it matters. This is why they get worked up.

The Holy Spirit and Jesus are the only Ones who will ever be able to open a person's heart. We are supposed to live in a way that makes them want what we have, peace, joy and love.
The ones that do not understand that, have not found it out yet.

I think it's important that we discuss what we believe. If you don't, I have to wonder what you're doing in this board. When someone believes that it's OK to kill others because they worship the "wrong" god, I want to know. Especially if "my" god is their idea of the "wrong" god. If everybody took your advice, there'd be nothing here to read! Speaking for myself, I just like knowing how others think and when my thinking is different, I like to sort out the differences in the hope that one day we will arrive at an agreement.

As long as Christianity, as well as several of the other "ultimate truths", have as their end and gleefully sought after goal, the END OF THE WORLD, and as long as they believe that their rights are being violated if they are denied the opportunity to use the coercive power of the state to shove their god down every ones throat, you will have to put up with us being in your face. Why should we abandon a forum where we can let you know that you will not be allowed to carry out the silly "End Times" rubbish that you seem to forget would include the rest of us.

As an atheist I think it's the other way round actually, believe whatever religious idea you like and STFU about it.
And while you are at it people of faith, quit politicking whilst claiming tax breaks...it's illegal..

I agree with Steve Brown, who once was a pastor and is now a professor at a theological seminary.
He says:
Sometimes you just have to let pagans be pagans.
The scriptures tell us, if those who call themselves by my name, will turn from their wicked ways, seek my face, I will heal their land.
That puts the burden on those who call themselves Sons of God or Christians.
Again,
Let's just let the pagans be pagans
