Something is wrong with the camera...when I go to the setup screen everything is fine but as soon as I try and turn the camera part on..it says batteries are exhausted. I have tried brand new batteries and it still does not work. Some one told me that if i update the firmware it might fix it

As far as I know, there isn't a firmware update available for the Coolpix 7600. What kind of batteries are you using? regular alkaline batteries? If so, that may be the reason. Get a set of high capacity rechargeable NiMH batteries and a recharger, such as these:

Google "nikon coolpix 7600 firmware"

Why do you wanna upgrade the firmware? I'd do that only if there is something really wrong with the current one and the new version would fix it. If things go wrong in upgrading, you don't know what might happen to the device, which might end up with worse problems.
