I have a few tattoos (and some piercings) and want to get a job in Human Resources. Did any of you have problems getting corporate type jobs with visible tattoos/and piercings?

I have one tattoo that is visible all the time it is on my wrist, and the only piercings I have are my ears (4 times each ear) I am a business manager for a large catholic school organization. I have several other tattoos that are not visible and some on one ankle that are only visible if I wear a dress or cropped pants. I was hired for my abilities not my appearance. But then again this organization practices tolerance for all people. You might want to minimize your tats and piercings while job hunting.

I have a corporate job running the Accounting Dept and also have 12 tats. My experience (on both sides) I will not hire somebody that does have visible tats (like the hands, neck, face) arms can be covered with long sleeves & same with legs along with no facial piercings while at the office. When I have to have an interview I make sure I wear pants to cover my legs (most of tats are on my legs). When I get tats I put them in places where they can be covered for this reason.

These reasons are because others may not be comfortable with tattoos which is OK. Tattoos seem to intimidate others because it's still associated with bad bikers & criminals. Tattoos should be for the person wearing it not for others to judge. But in todays society they do. Looks are the first impression especially in the business world and having visible tats sometimes don't make a good impression. Piercings have their own judgement but not as bad as tats (I think). But while at work I think they should be removed if they are visible (besides the ears of course).

Human Resources are in contact with many people not only within the business but outsiders as well so I would really be practical about the tats & piercings. Look at it from others perspective with out judgement or prejeduce. I mean after all we don't like it when others judge us because we have art on us - true?!.

I have two tattoos, one on the top of my foot, and seven piercings total in my ears. I worked as a secretary for a large construction company for 6 months before anyone noticed my (rather large) rook piercing, and that was only after I brought it to everyone's attention during a talk about our "wild child" days! Everyone had also failed to notice the tattoo on my foot, which was also visible basically every day. Since then, I've recieved a few disapproving looks, but mostly, I get teased for being a "crazy kid" (I'm 18). My boss even changed our shared computer network password to "tattoo" in my honor! I didn't try to hide my modifications in my interview, and as you've heard, everything has been positive so far. And as mentioned in an earlier answer, people are becoming more and more open to the idea of body art in the corporate workplace.

(Check out the link below for my photography! :D)

I would make a strong effort to cover the tattoos until you get the job. Usually, once hired, the dress code will become apparent and you may be able to show your piercings and tattoos.

With the particular field you are going in, I'm sure moderate piercings will be fine and I'm sure you'll get away with an ankle tattoo, but don't push your luck. Not all businesses are laid back or accepting of mods and those that are seem to be rare.

I have 4 tattoos and 3 piercings and I'm a nurse. I haven't ran into any problems with patients or the hospital staff. I was hired on my abilities not my tattoos. Society in general is alot more open minded about things of this nature than they were say 15 years ago.

I have my tongue pierced and a tattoo on the back of my neck (of a cats face). I work in the corporate world. I wear suits to work and if I tie my hair up you can see my tattoo. When i talk you can see my tongue ring. I think it matters on the person hiring you. I do the marketing for a multi-million dollar company and meet with clients all day sometimes. You'd be surprised how open minded people are and how much society has changed in the past 10 years. Tattoos and piercings aren't as taboo as they use to be.

My tattoos had to be completely coverable. I even have to wear dark stockings so you can't see the one on my ankle.

I know quite a few people that have had to remove piercings too.

i work in human resources. i went in with a nose ring (not a stud) and several ear piercings (including stretched lobes) and i've had no problem at all with my employer. mind you, our atmosphere is pretty laid back. i think it's safe to assume that not every company will be as accepting as mine but there are some that really don't mind.

I would cover them if I were you. There are camoflauge makeups you can use to cover them up. Take a look at both of these sites for ordering informaiton.

http://www.dermablend.com
http://www.neostrata.com/coverblend/

You can find them in places like Sephora, ULTA along with some major Department Stores.

Hope this helps.
