Hello,

I work in a retail business and need the computer to be on all the time in order to receive incoming online orders.
After any unexpected electrical shutdown, the computer restarts but stops on users login name, waiting for the password. This is normal.

Is it possible to go over this step automatically and launch XP ???

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thx

Both the previous responses are correct. Basically, if your system only has 1 user account defined (administrator and guest not included), and that user account doesn't have a password, it'll automatically log you in.

However, if you need to have multiple accounts created and you also need passwords to be present, you can still do it. Download the TweakUI tool from Microsoft (part of their XP powertoys). URL is here:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/c/a/fca6767b-9ed9-45a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUIPowertoySetup_ia64.exe

When you launch TweakUI, you'll see an option on the left hand side called Login -> Autologon. From there, you can tell the system to login automatically at startup using whatever username and password that you specify in the TweakUI tool.

Yes, you can do this. I think if you make sure the account you want logged on doesn't have a password and that its the only account on the computer, you can enable Fast User Switching (maybe?) under User Accounts in the Control Panel. It's something to that effect - hope that helps.

You would have to delete the login name and password. With only the default login, and no password, you can get XP to boot directly into the desktop.
