I can get a good deal on a hotel in Tarrytown, NY, but I don't know if there is much to do in that area. My main concern is if there is easy transportation from there to NYC, preferably by a rail transit. I also know Sleepy Hollow is close by, but I don't know if there is much to do there either. It is a trip for my 30th b-day (a girls trip). I'm interested mainly in the areas of sightseeing, nightlife, and shopping. Any tips or suggestions would be helpful.

Sleepy Hollow is.. well sleepy hollow, you're right about not much to do there, besides an old cemetery, old mansion & an old church, but honestly you really need to check it out during halloween (Has the ol' town appeal for it). The main problem about being far yet close to NYC is if you take a train from tarrytown to NYC, last service (Type in Metro North to confirm) is at 1:50 AM & they do not start up until commuter time 5 AM. Which can work for you if you're willing to party until 5 AM. But if you just want to stay until 3 AM & head home you will need to hang out at a restaurant or somewhere else until the train's running. NYC is really varied & it depends on how you socialize (Bars, clubs, 30+, Reggae, Reggaeton, Rap, Rock, Live, Jazz, Techno etc) you need to check out some party websites to find that out too. I like Webster Hall, but other people can't stand it. Some people like LQ, but maybe it's not your crowd. Just a starting point & for shopping if you have money, go to 5th Ave Central Park, crazy go to Soho/The Village. Bargains, 34th & Broadway for the swap meet.
Good Luck.
