The best way to do it is to work it in a 2 week process. Maybe introduce a sippy cup for meals and let them keep the bottle the rest of the day for the first week and DO NOT cave in no matter how much they cry.

The second week give the sippy cup during the day and only give the bottle in the evening and late night feedings. At the start of the thrid week do not give the bottle at all. To do it gradual and introduce the cup slowly is best but do not go backward once you start or give the bottle after the child has started using the cup and then have to break them from the bottle again. Good luck.

Slowly switch to a cup. Give him a cup during the day and a bottle at night. After a month, stop the bottle but make sure he has a good drink of milk before going to bed. Play some soothing music and add a night light. Tell him the advantages of being a 'big boy' and what they do - soon he'll want to be like those 'big boys' and outright refuse the bottle. A slow transition is better than just taking it away. When my first was ready - he threw his bottle in the garbage and went straight to the cup.

I don't recommend 'cold turkey' as a bottle is not only a food source, but also a calming tool for little ones. By taking it away completely, your son may have trouble comforting himself if his bottle/feeding times are his relaxing/soothing parts of the day. Try introducing the 'big boy' sippy cup at meals and using the bottle for the early morning and/or late evening feedings. Even if your son doesn't want to give up his bottle for early mornings or late nights for a while yet, it's not a big deal. The most important thing is that he's progressing and is healthy. I guarantee he won't be using the bottle in preschool! :)

My son like most loved to throw things away just for fun. So I had him throw away his bottle. I weaned him off by just letting him have a bottle at night, then one night I gave him a sippy cup with milk and he drank it and went right to sleep. I thought it was going to be a bad night, but no he slept straight thru. Good Luck.

to ease the transition with my daughter, i would give her those sippy cups with the soft spouts- i think the brand is Nubby. the spout is similar to a nipple, but its a sippy cup. it took a few days to get used to. she hated it! As far as replacing all bottles at once with a sippy, or just doing one at a time depends on you and your baby. I think we got to the point where my daughter only had a bottle at night and then we replaced that with a sippy. That seemed to work okay. Once she was okay with a sippy cup we replaced the soft spout with more of a toddler sippy cup. Its always a tough change on your baby though. good luck!

Have him try a sippy cup.Usually they are given to children around 6 months of age.If he's never used one,try now.Gradually wean him off of the bottle.Stay focused on using the sippy..and best of luck to your little one..it is tough.

Get ready for a little taste of Hell!!!!!!!! Just start today and when it's bottle time, don't give it to him. It might take a week or two, but you have to hang in there. GOOD LUCK!
