Why do people wait until Christmas time to be generous and feed the hungry and the poor? Why not do things like that all throughout the year? If I were needy, I would much rather have someone feed me in the middle of June because they want to than during December because they feel they have to because it's holiday season.

You know that is soooo true. People just like to show off during the holidays so that they can say they did something good, only when they remember there is a God. Most people that go to church, any church, just go as a habit, they don't really know why they go. It is just something to on Sundays, and the same thing about giving food to the poor, instead of doing it all year round they pick the days that they think God will be looking down at them and saying, that a boy you did something good on this day!!!! Please no hate e-mails I just said what I thought. thanks.

Not all of them do. There are a lot of churches that have food banks and are open all the time, depending upon the denomination. There are always places that feed and clothe the hungry and needy. Check out Salvation Army, Goodwill. All the free houses that are supported by donations, so that they have soup kitchens.
The reason there are open Thanksgiving meals is to share the Holidays with those who have no where to go.
I am thankful for this,because there has been occasions when I was too broke to cook for Thanksgiving or go out to eat.
I wanted to make another point that you seem to have missed. Please remember how very many people individually donated to Hurricane Katrina. There are also a lot of people that give money to the poor who stand outside of grocery or on the streets. I am one of them and I am not alone.
I used to think as you do but that was before I grew up. Also, at Christmas time, there are children who don't get presents and it makes them feel very bad, so Christmas gifts are collected by the Marines, The Police Departments, Angel Tree at Sears, and many others. I think that is great.

If you live in the northern hemisphere you'll agree that a hot meal in Dec is better than a hot meal in June. If you were needy, you wouldn't care what motives people had as long as they helped. Out of curiosity, do you do anything year round to help the needy?
Most churches and charities offer assistance year round but really ramp it around the holidays in effort to bridge the inequity between the classes, for lack of better terms. After all shouldn't everyone experience the goodwill of holidays regardless of financial status? Also, many organizations that do offer assistance year round are overwhelmed with requests around the holidays so even seasonal efforts help ease the load.

Some organizations collect enough non-perishable foods to last the entire year also. The Salvation Army in my area recieved enough that it last from Dec to Nov. They accept food anytime of year, but really promote it during the holidays to help remind people that there are still some in need.

They do not only do it during the holidays. Most do it year round. It is just our screwed up media that only advertise the donations during the holidays. Most churches have a food pantry that is kept stocked by the parishioners.

They do feed the poor at other times, it's just at Christmas is when the public acutally hears about it and feels guilty enough to donate.

food drivers are done all year, at this time of year there is more need as the poor use there money on Christmas and not there bills and food.

Yes, I agree with you. I have been saying that to my wife. They seem to think the needy are only needy on holidays. Or they feel quilty .

They don't. It's just more publicized now. My cousin volunteers to feed the homeless monthly on weekends. It happens every day, you aren't noticing it.
