I have decided to swim every morning at my local pool. I have been doing it for a few days now and feel slightly better for it, however I see ladies who seem to have been swimming everymorning for a long time, yet are still rather .. plump. Its quite demotivating to think that I could do this for a year yet still not loose any weight. Is swimming an ideal excercise for losing weight? And if not what easyish and not totally boring forms of excercise are?

Yes, it's a good exercise but it depends on how you do it and whether you change your food choices.

A 200 lb person who swims constantly for 30 minutes will burn 350 calories so it will take 10 days to lose 1 pound.

Maybe the other ladies at the pool aren't cutting back on food calories? Or worse, eating extra because they're exercising? Or maybe they are only actually "swimming" part of the time?

You have to take into consideration whether these ladies are doing it to lose weight or not, by the sound of it they're most likely not and so there diet is more 'maintence' and 'routine' than intended to lose weight.

Swimming is a fantastic exercise, burn a 1000 calories in two hours, work almost every muscle of your body and tone up areas fat seems to group such as arms and legs.

Providing you incorporate other exercises and eat within moderation you will lose weight.
