As always, people try to get more, mainly what they could live without! But, feeling strong and willing to keep power, start a war and inside everyone should obey the leaders and generals! Thus, the Germans found/ created the opportunity to start a bloody war, against everyone! Due to the non steady situation of the European states, it turn to a world war. World War I, or "the Great War," started in 1915 with the Assassination of the Grand Duke Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary by Serbian separatists. Austria-Hungary retaliated millitarily against Serbia. Because of a series of interlocking treaties, the Russians, British, French, and Italians were drawn into the war on Serbia's side, while Germany and Turkey were obligated to fight on Austria-Hungary's side. The two sides fought to virtual standstill, neither having significant sustained advantage. While the United States attempted to remain neutral for 2 and a half years, unrestricted submarine warfare conducted by the Germans finally turned the tide of American public sentiment against Germany, drawing them into the war. American forces arrived in Europe and tipped the balance of power to the "Allies," forcing the "Axis" to capitulate on November 11, 1918, at 11:11am. Millions were dead, and the economies of all but the Americans were in tatters.
