What a shame that black officers feel that they need an association to identify with.
When I joined the police service in 1987 I learned quickly that there weren't black officers, or white ones, because we were all BLUE, and we were told that we faced potentially much worse attitude than people of any other colour. For that reason we all needed to band together, some pepole, of all different colours, called it "closing ranks".

I'm a black (female) police officer. I'm not a member of the Black Police association, don't feel the need, but I wouldn't say it's racist. They don't sit around plotting bad stuff about white officers or anything like that. The B.P.A. recognises that culturally there are differences between different groups, just like the gay/jewish/christian etc police groups. Being a police officer is difficult enough and sometimes you find yourself policing a situation which is in conflict with your views. Whilst we usually get on and deal with this, sometimes it's nice to have an organisation which acknowledges and understands your feelings. I recently was on duty at the Cenotaph on rememberance sunday when the BNP laid a wreath. I found this a little uncomfortable, although it's all part of a day's work, this is a situation that I would feel the BPA are a useful organisation to approach.
I have friends who have felt uncomfortable about aspects of the job and approached the Christian police association for support, does this make them anti-semitic? Of course not. People feel comfortable with what is familiar and as a support group I'm sure the B.P.A. has helped many officers.

All police officers, of whatever nominal rank, are Constables.
A Constable is locally appointed but has authority under the Crown for:
the protection of life and property,
the prevention and detection of crime and
the prosecution of offenders against the (Queen's) Peace.
This covers just about any contingency one can think of and means that Constables may have to carry out some unpleasant tasks. It does not give any officer the right to opt out of something (within the law) he or she might not agree with. Anyone who thinks they might have a problem in handling the demands of the job might be better off seeking employment elsewhere rather than seeking advice from some exclusionary and self-serving association designed to elevate minority interests above those of the job itself and the proper enforcement of law and order.

Yes without a doubt...
Until the day comes that all groups stop trying to take advantage, by shouting about whatever sector of the community they are in and accept for themselves that to discriminate is a natures way of existence, there will always be tension in communities. The word discrimination in reality means identification. If somebody is black, big deal, so what, it makes no difference. What does make a difference is when anyone from a culture other than white shouts out about it, is they are showing their level of intelligence to the nation and the nation looks back and says 'For gods sakes, Grow up'.

I am personally setting up a Music of White origin awards cermony, anyone what to particpate. By the way whats wrong with a group of people laying a wreath at the cenotaph. It just so happened the wreath was laid by a member of the BNP, perhaps he/she had relatives who died for this country and wanted to show a sign of respect. Nothing wrong with that.

Without a doubt.
Would its members support a "White Police Officers Association" in South Africa?....um, I think we both know the answer to that one.
