Peppermint is an old remedy for stomach pain as well as indigestion. They also want their breath to smell good.

I am just wondering why you think this is limited to old people. Young people do the same thing. No one wants to have bad breath.

Well, that sounds like quite the stereotype to me!! The only old person I know that has peppermints is my Dad - he's always loved them, ever since I was little (and he wasn't old then).

Most people I know who carry peppermints are young people worried about their breath.

Because they are rotting from within and they think the peppermints help cover up the stench of their decay. Alternatively maybe they just like peppermints.

My grandma ALWAYS had a little bowl of peppermints! She told me she had them all the time because her mouth got dry. Also, it was a little perk for going to visit her because she'd always tell us to eat them up.

You know what's worse? Cinnamon. Man I hate cinnamon breath mints! Who decided that something that heats your mouth would make it fresher?

But anyways, my grandpa always had butterscotch.
